The National Field Medical Director of the Oncology Scientific Partnership Medical Director (NFMD Onc SPMD) team –is a member of the Center for Innovations and Medical Excellence group within the US Medical Affairs team. In this role, you will hire, develop, and lead a national team of Scientific Partnership Medical Directors, whose primary focus is to provide medical partnership with our National Oncology Account Director team as well as work build and execute systems/institution specific plans for key sites and networks focusing on scientific, clinical, and evidence generation. This is a field-based role, reporting to the Head, Center for Innovations and Medical Excellence.  

The SPMD team is part of a collaborative matrix that partners closely across several functional areas within US Oncology, including but not limited to, Precision Medicine, Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs), Health Economics Outcomes Research (HEOR), Real World Evidence (RWE), Research & Development, External Alliances,National Oncology Account Director (NOAD) team, and related stakeholders.  

The NFMD OncSPMD will align with the NOADleadership to ensure medical partnership, across the nation, in identified accounts and networks. In addition the NFMD Onc SPMD will champion innovative opportunities to internal and external stakeholders through interactions with Cancer Center Leaders (e.g., “C & D” suite) and other USMA staff on tumor specific opportunities.

Finally, the NFMD Onc SPMD will play a key strategic role within the USMA organization, as a liaison between the SPMD team and USMA franchise and CIME leadership to ensure continued alignment on medical, scientific and clinical priorities

MajorResponsibilities:

  • Build, develop and lead a high performing team of SPMDs with a clearstrategy plan including an enterprise-wide view that reflects the USMA, R&D, and oncology franchise objectives at assigned health systems

  • Medical partner to NOAD leadership for priority US-based health systems and primary medical contact for leadership within assigned US-based health systems

  • In conjunction with USMA franchise leadership, develop, support and drivea National strategy for US OncologyMedical Affairs atassigned US-based health systems with a focus on innovation/enterprise-wide activities

  • Lead through influence when collaborating with other internal partnersat AstraZeneca; including but not limited to HEOR, RWE, MSLs, R&D, External Alliances, and Precision Medicine

  • Develop strong medical relationships across AstraZeneca functions and key scientific decision makers.

  • Monitor and measure performance metrics and provide direction and timely feedback to SPMDs regarding these metrics; monitor and measure field performance metrics and identify trends at the team level. 

  • Clearly communicate the impact of the SPMD teams to senior leaders across the organisation  

  • Through coaching and development discussions, ensure SPMDs demonstrate AZ Values.

  • Working with Training and Onboarding Lead, ensure all new hires are trained in medical and field skills.  Lead sign-off process for SPMDs to ensure all teams meet consistent, rigorous standards of scientific acumen, field behaviors and demonstrate AZ values

  • Set and drive appropriate capability development and professional progression across SPMD team. 

  • Ensure SPMD compliance with AZ Compliance, SOPs and US laws & regulations for all activities, in line with the principles of Scientific Engagement, the promotional code and field medical practice policies.

  • Identify and quantify medical budget with 3 year look forward including innovation projects and enterprise-wide initiative that futher the AZ mission and values.

  • Act as the single point of contact for SPMD team with cross-functional partners and AstraZeneca leadership.

  • Attend and participate in key conferences as needed

MinimumRequirements:

  • Advanced Degree required in a relevant scientific field; Doctorate in Science, Medicine, Pharmacyor equivalent area preferred

  • Experience in oncology (Basic, Translational, Early Dev Research or Medical Affairs)

  • 8+ years of oncology specific experience within the pharmaceutical industry

  • Thorough knowledge of the US clinical oncology clinical landscape

  • Strong interpersonal and project management skills

  • Strategic influencing and matrix leadership skills to engage internal and external partners

  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment across medical and commercial non-sales functions

  • Working knowledge of US healthcare landscape, including US regulatory and compliance requirements

PreferredRequirements:

  • Previous leadership experience in a strategy-setting role in the pharmaceutical industry

  • Previous experience leading a field medical team is preferred

The annual base pay for this position ranges from $224,631.20 - 336,946.80 USD Annual. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
